Ever since it was built 130 years ago, the Mansan Historic House was never left vacant, always filled with the family descendants. Going through the fast modernization, the descendants of the family never left the house while others did. Modern heating system and toilets were built. Persimmons are hung in fall, radish greens are hung in winter in the house. Kimchi, Ganjang(soy sauce), Doenjang(soybean paste), and Gochujang(spicy pepper paste) are fermenting in Jangdokdae(platform for crocks of sauces and condiments). Grandchildren’s toys laying at the corner of the yard are getting rained on the yard. Mansan Historic House lives in both past and present. It is not a showroom from the past, but the present living house of the past and the present in harmony.

The first thing that catches your eyes as you pass Soteuldaemun(gate) is wild flower pots lined up in front of Sarangchae. The work of the lady of the house, gathered from mountains near Chunyang-myeon, maximizes its venerable beauty. Potteries which the lady of the house made are displayed in Sarangchae Daecheong and Chilryuheon Daecheong. The the mother-in-law, the lady of the house has taken it as her loyal duty to practice ancestral worship ceremonies and to serve guests of the family.
